Service Award Recipient - Alyssa Jayne Upston

 2025 Award Winners

Te Awamutu Netball Centre is proud to recognise Alyssa-Jayne, known to many as AJ, for her outstanding service and dedication to our netball community.

AJ’s involvement in netball stretches back to her school days, playing at Te Awamutu College, Pirongia Netball, and Te Awamutu Sports Netball. Since then, she has continued her journey as both a player and a committed volunteer, making a lasting impact on our Centre and club.

A long-time member of the Te Awamutu Sports Netball committee, AJ has contributed in almost every role over the years. Even while raising her young family – with her oldest now five and another little one due in October 2025 – AJ has continued to give generously of her time and energy.

Her organisational skills shine most brightly during junior musters and trials. With growing numbers of players choosing clubs over school teams, AJ has played a key role in developing fun, skills-based trial stations. These not only make the process enjoyable for players but also help coaches and selectors place players in the teams where they will thrive.

Beyond her club commitments, AJ has supported the wider Centre by bench officiating at Premier Reserve and Premier games, and has also been called on as a selector for representative trials. Her coaching experience is equally impressive, ranging from Junior grades through to A Grade and Premier Reserve. Today, she continues to share her expertise and resources, inspiring young players – including her own daughter – to love the game.

We are truly grateful for AJ’s dedication across so many different areas of netball. Her passion, knowledge, and countless hours of volunteer service embody the very best of our community.

Thank you, AJ – your contribution makes a difference every single season.
